Online auto insurance quotes are the preferred way for most consumers to get quotes today, according to recent studies. Only 3 out of 10 consumers said they preferred to speak with an agent directly over the phone when obtaining insurance quotes.
This is probably due to the convenience of online quoting systems which are accessible 24 hours a day, and allow users to compare multiple quotes from different agencies with a few mouse clicks. This saves time and money for consumers, because it forces insurance companies to me more competitive with one another to offer the best rate quotes. It's estimated that in 2010 over 37 million auto insurance quotes were processed online, and about 10% of those quotes resulted in the consumer purchasing one of the quoted policies online.
