Auto Insurance Rates in North Carolina

The North Carolina Insurance Commissioner is opposing new legislation that he says would scuttle the state's current auto car insurance rate system.
He said that the bills would strip him of his authority to review and cap auto rate hikes, ultimately hurting North Carolina residents who would end up paying higher auto insurance premiums. The proposals have been pushed by out-of-state companies who are looking to make more money off of North Carolina drivers. They would likely charge higher rates to even those drivers with a perfect record. There are three separate but related bills, two in the House and one in the Senate, that are currently under review by the Legislative Committee on Insurance. They would give insurance companies legal authority to charge higher rates regardless of customer driving records.
